Demand forecasting & planning tool for agriculture supported by Farmer database
Samunnati
Stage of adaption :
Crop Planning Stage/Cultivation Stage/Post-harvest stage
TECHNOLOGY BRIEF
The technology tool has its genesis in Samunnati’s belief in the importance of aggregation, market linkage & advisory services to elevate the agri value chains at a higher equilibrium. Highly fragmented land parcels & a plethora of challenges faced by the smallholders demand aggregation at various levels. A country wide farmer database that captures information about farmers, their farm, the crops they grow, the technology they use and the markets they operate in. The database is being developed to ensure demand forecasting at district, state and national level. Using the database, production can be optimized by means of clusters and by assessing local conditions and farmer’s expertise in growing certain kind of crops. The ability to assimilate data from a wide range of sources in turn supports decision making engines through development of algorithms.
BENEFITS
• National level datasbse with plot-specific focus enables resource planning & deployment factoring macro & micro elements
• A platform that enables smallholder farmers receive suggestions based on aggregated datasets and bring transparency, nudging them towards optimal usage of resource through crops selection & agronomic practices
• The planning & forecasting tool harnesses remote sensing & crowdsourced inputs to generate unbiased insights & highlight success stories that are actionable to a farmer
• It enables markets & authorities to take data-driven decisions on resource allocation

SOCIAL IMPACT
Primarily designed to serve collectives of smallholder farmers, the platform enables access to markets along with capacity building of these organisations. The strengthening of these rural entities has immediate impact in terms of:
• Bringing the cost of inputs down
• More output per unit
• More unit under use
In long terms it contributes to upliftment of smallholder farmers through operating the agri value chains at a higher equilibrium.
