TECHNOLOGY BRIEF
The Aldea Tech App is designed by farmers for farmers to help exchange the best practices in growing coffee. It’s simple features make it easy for farmers to access the latest weather updates and advice from local agronomists. It provides weather data with advice based on weather conditions. It provides a library of curated content by expert farmers and agronomists. It also provides a direct channel for the farmers to access the agronomists by submitting questions via the app. The app is intended to be used as a digital machete – the farmers most valuable tool.

It helps build a community of farmers to grow as a whole. It helps update the latest information and practices for the farmers to follow.

Acquired more than 100 customers
The app is publicly available in the play store. We are in the process of distributing mobile devices with SIM cards to 150 farmers to use the app in their daily routine.

LIMITATIONS
The technology is scalable but the content needs to be created and curated by a team of experts on a daily basis. This limits the scalability of the app to the capacity of the publishing team.

SOCIAL IMPACT
The app is aimed to small cropholders which account for 50% of the global farmer population. Local studies have shown that the average yield is 7% but this can easily reach the desirable 25% yield. Numbers from coffee farmers in Nicaragua.
