Digital Platform for Agriculture Information & Management System

VASSAR LABS

Stage of adaption :

Crop planning stage, Cultivation stage

TECHNOLOGY BRIEF

We leverages latest technologies like IoT, Satellite, AI & ML, Big data to provide last mile visibility for decision support. The platform integrates data from various sources like satellite, sensors, mobile applications, and other business data and run various crop, hydrology, AI and ML models. Its provides an interactive GIS/MIS dashboard to give information of choice to the users as per assigned roles. The same is also delivered via mobile app for location specific information. Further vernacular SMS media is also used for individual specific alerts and advisories to farmers. With the use of 30 years of historical data, IoT sensors, Satellite data, crowd source data, spatial layers, weather forecast information, crop models, hydrology models, machine learning models combine Precision Agriculture, On Farm Stress Forecasting advisories with large scale planning and management of agriculture life cycle by the Govt. departments. The platform integrates with mobile app for other data points like, crop booking and ground truthing for Machine Learning Models. It attempts to identify data gaps and use various mathematical, spatial and ML based algorithms to fill these data gaps and keeps the system update with near real-time information. Our solution is built on a modern scalable platform that uses license-free open sources tools and components written in JAVA, R, Python, Angular JS, Node JS, HTML, CSS, etc.

BENEFITS

  • Comprehensive agriculture information and management system which eliminates silos and unifies the workflows
  • Assist farmers for regulated farming
  • Sowing advisories for all rainfed crop mandals in both rabi and kharif seasons on weekly basis
  • Provides timely and qualitative assistance to the authorities and farmers of the state
  • Delivers key performance indicators dashboard for different users
  • Helps in scientific crop planning and management interventions
  • Analytics-based insights and with visualization via GIS and MIS dashboards
  • Easy to access and explore

TECHNOLOGY READINESS

Deployed in largescale
Agriculture solution has been implemented in two states of India which are Andhra Pradesh and Haryana. Below is the table with key details of implementation:

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

Technology Not Protected

CERTIFICATION

Its implemented in AP in 2018-19 with all modules expect insurance and re-implemented in Haryana in 2019 with insurance. Below are the links to platform:
Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Information & Management System–http://apaims.vassarlabs.com
Haryana Agriculture Information & Management System—-http://haims.vassarlabs.com

TARGET CUSTOMERS

  • Department of Agriculture (State Government)
  • Water Resource Department
  • Farmers

SCALABILITY

The solution offered by us is scalable for the whole of country State wise. The only constrain here is that agriculture scenarios are very versatile depending upon geography, hence the solution needs to be customized or fine-tuned for selected geography.

But in case of Telangana that’s also not a concern as our current implementation is Andhra Pradesh, where climate conditions and agriculture practices are similar to Telangana.

LIMITATIONS

We need ground truthing and data collection on real-time basis.

TECHNOLOGY COST

As this is done from Government as Farmers welfare projects, no cost is involved from Farmers side. The primary cost is borne by Dept for Agriculture (Government), and the cost of implementation is for the whole of state.
Tentative numbers (below is a broad range, and dependant of number of modules to be implemented)

• AIMS platform cost ~ 3-7 Cr. per state deployment
• Project Execution cost ~ 1-2 Cr.
• Year on Year Operation cost ~ 1-2 Cr./Year
• Sensor Infra and Paid Satellite Data cost not included.

SOCIAL IMPACT

Our agriculture information management solution unifies all the stakeholders to one platform which has a larger impact on farmer and farming practices. Some of the social impact are:

• Better life for farmers by increasing GVA
• Sowing advisories to improve crop success rate and also helps planning resources
• Labour assistance: We have witnessed labour migration during covid-19 pandemic, and it has both social and economic impact. By having visibility of demand helps streamlining labour and machineries movements for smooth operations.
• Helps optimize usage of fertilizers for better soil health and avoid excess use and reduce production cost
• Pest alerts results in need based use of chemical and avoiding pollution.
• Quality food products with less chemical residues.
• Optimize water use efficiency to ensure water resources are not over exploited.
